While Las Vegas may be best known for shotgun weddings and wedding chapels featuring Elvis impersonators, a variety of properties on the Strip have crafted unique new wedding packages. Travel Agent spoke to a number of these properties to find out how agents can best sell Vegas weddings and give their client a ceremony they will never forget.

“We offer ceremonies in both the evening and afternoon at The Mirage Volcano,” says Rachel Nelson, wedding specialist at The Mirage. The Mirage Volcano, reopened in 2008, combines music from Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart and a volcano designed by the team behind the Fountains of Bellagio to create a striking, one-of-a-kind Las Vegas spectacle. “Our available ceremonies are actually timed with the Volcano, so at the conclusion you can watch the Volcano show and have champagne toasts during the show,” says Nelson.

Caesars Palace announced today James Beard award-winning Chef Michel Richard will bring a version of his popular Washington D.C restaurant to Las Vegas. Central 24/7 by Michel Richard is scheduled to open in late summer of 2011 and will occupy the current Augustus Café space adjacent to the iconic Caesars Palace hotel lobby. Central 24/7 will offer a 24-hour dining experience daily highlighting breakfast, lunch and dinner selections. The 9,600 square-foot restaurant will seat approximately 300 guests in total including an outdoor patio terrace. Sahara Hotel & Casino announced today that it plans to close on May 16, 2011.

“We are working with our partners to assess a variety of options for the property, including a complete renovation and repositioning,” said Sam Nazarian, CEO of sbe Entertainment Group, which owns and operates the Sahara. “While no final decisions have been made at this point,” Nazarian said, “the continued operation of the aging Sahara was no longer economically viable.”

“We see the northern end of the Strip as the future of Las Vegas,” Nazarian said. “With Las Vegas showing early signs of recovery, we are confident that we ultimately will find a creative and comprehensive new solution for this historic property.”
